James Plate focuses his business on luxury real estate and high-end horse ranches. Why? Simply put, it is because he knows the lifestyle firsthand. Whether it was being a long-time resident and homeowner in the exclusive San Francisco suburb of Atherton, California, or the experience garnered as a cattle rancher, or having designed and supervised the construction of his family’s luxury horse property in Nevada, he has lived the lifestyle and continues to do so here in Texas.
He brings his unique skills, both from his professional and personal experience to his business, which has proven to be beneficial in relating to his clients. He has dealt with very diverse and discerning individuals in his real estate career: tech industry executives, physicians, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and even a quantum physicist.
When not in business mode, he enjoys family time with his wife, Kimberley and their young twins, Milena and Matthew. Other than caring for their two dogs and four horses, James enjoys playing one of his many guitars, cooking, photography, enjoying live music, and when time permits, playing tennis and skiing. He and Kimberley enjoy writing songs together and have frequented Nashville to network with other songwriters and recording artists.
I’ve found that my business philosophy for real estate loosely mirrors Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion:
1st Law: “An object at rest will remain at rest unless acted on by an unbalanced force.”
Sales are driven. Whether representing a seller or a buyer, one must have a plan of action to achieve the goal.
2nd Law: “Acceleration is produced when a force acts on a mass. The greater the mass, the greater the force needed.”
When dealing with high-end luxury properties, it takes a forceful, concerted effort to install a concise marketing plan to reach the appropriate pool of potential buyers.
3rd Law: “For every action, there is an equal opposite reaction.”
Each extraordinary property is unique and an excitement of its exclusivity must be created to stir interest and influence the desired reaction: the sale of the property.
In order for these laws of motion to take place when selling or buying luxury real estate, it takes business savvy, resourcefulness, and creativity from your real estate professional. Anything less is just leaving it up to chance!
